Victoria
Woodhull
1838-1927
Victoria
Woodhull was an American spiritualist and suffragette. Spiritualism brought her into
contact with the shipping tycoon Cornelius Vanderbuilt, who helped her
to become the first female stock broker on Wall Street. In 1872 as the candidate of the National Equal Rights Party, she was the first woman to ran for
president of the US.
Most other leaders of the woman's suffrage movement kept a safe distance from
Woodhull because she had many odd notions such as psychic research and
free love.
