Grace
Kelly
1929-1982
Grace Kelly was one of the most popular movie stars of the 1950s, starring in Rear
Window and High
Noon, which often show up on lists of the best films ever. She won the best actress
Oscar for her performance in The
Country Girl (1954).
Born in Philadelphia, she
became Princess Grace of
Monaco in 1956 when she married Prince Rainier III. She
is Exhibit A of the adage that it's easier for an American
girl to grow
up to become a princess (depends on the definition, but at least
11) than to become a Supreme Court Justice. (6)
